Biosolar synergy in Sweden
A new 11.78 kWp vertical solar installation is now generating clean energy from a sedum green roof in Sweden.
The project features 46 VPV units, demonstrating how solar generation can be seamlessly integrated with a green roof while maintaining the benefits and appearance of the vegetation.
Solar and nature on the same roof
Green roofs provide a range of benefits, from supporting biodiversity and managing rainwater to contributing to the environmental performance of buildings. Integrating solar into these rooftops therefore requires a solution that works in harmony with the vegetation.
Vertical PV makes this combination possible. By positioning the panels vertically, the system leaves space for the sedum vegetation while adding renewable energy generation to the same rooftop.
The result is a biosolar rooftop where solar production and green infrastructure work together, making better use of the available roof space. With its vertical orientation and bifacial design, the system also offers a production profile that can complement electricity demand and price patterns throughout the day.
This project is another example of how solar and green roofs can work together to unlock more value from existing rooftops.
